At WilderWoods Website Development, we are committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information is collected when you use the WilderWoods AltText WordPress plugin, how it is used, and the measures we take to protect your data.
1. Information We Collect
WilderWoods AltText is designed to minimize data collection. We only collect the minimum information necessary to provide the AI metadata generation service and manage your credit balance.
- Sync Key: A randomly generated, anonymous alphanumeric string created when you activate the plugin. This key identifies your site to our servers for credit management. It is not tied to your name, email address, or WordPress account.
- Site Domain: The URL of your WordPress site (e.g.,
example.com), used to validate the Sync Key. - Image Public URLs: When you request metadata generation, the public URL of the specific image is sent to our server so the AI can analyze it.
- Basic Site Context: A brief, anonymized text summary of your site (e.g., site name, homepage description, or navigation menu labels). This is used only to help the AI understand your site’s terminology (e.g., knowing your site is about “woodworking” so it uses the correct terms), not to track you.
2. What We DO NOT Collect
To ensure your privacy and security, WilderWoods AltText explicitly does not collect or transmit:
- Actual Image Files: We do not upload, store, or process your actual image files on our servers. We only send the public URL of the image.
- Personal Information: We do not collect or transmit your name, email address, IP address, or WordPress administrator credentials to our cloud servers.
- Visitor Data: We do not track, collect, or transmit any data regarding the visitors, customers, or users of your WordPress website.
- Payment Information: All payment and credit card details are handled exclusively by our payment processor, Freemius. We never see or store your financial information.
3. How We Use Your Information
The limited data we collect is used solely for the following purposes:
- To process your request and return AI-generated alt text, titles, captions, or descriptions.
- To accurately deduct one (1) credit from your balance per successful generation.
- To allow you to share a single credit balance across multiple WordPress sites using the Sync Key.
- To prevent abuse and ensure the stability of our cloud infrastructure.
4. Third-Party Services & Data Sharing
WilderWoods AltText relies on trusted third-party services to function. When you use the plugin, data is shared as follows:
- WilderWoods AltText Cloud (Vercel / Neon): Our secure backend servers receive the Sync Key, site domain, image URL, and basic site context to process the request and manage your credits.
- Google Gemini API: Our server forwards the image URL and basic site context to Google’s Gemini API to perform the actual AI analysis. Google’s processing is governed by Google’s Privacy Policy. No image files are sent directly from your server to Google; our server handles this intermediary step securely.
- Freemius: If you choose to purchase additional credits, all checkout, payment processing, and licensing are handled by Freemius. We do not have access to your payment details. Please review Freemius’s Privacy Policy for details on how they handle your transaction data.
5. Data Retention
We retain your anonymous Sync Key and credit balance indefinitely, or until you request deletion. Temporary server logs containing image URLs may be retained for up to 30 days solely for debugging and security monitoring purposes, after which they are automatically deleted.
6. Your Rights
Depending on your location (including residents of the EEA under GDPR or California under CCPA), you have the right to:
- Request information about the data we hold about your site (via your Sync Key).
- Request the deletion of your Sync Key and associated credit balance from our servers.
- Opt-out of using the Service at any time by deactivating and deleting the plugin.
To exercise any of these rights, please contact us using the information below.
7. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or legal requirements. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated “Last Updated” date.
